Naval special warfare jobs have been open to women for a year but no women are in the pipeline yet, and Navy officials concede it may be some time before a woman makes it into either a SEAL team or into the Special Warfare Combat Crewman field.
Naval Special Warfare head RADM Tim Szymanski recently told an industry conference that several women have tried to get into the pipeline but have not met physical standards.”
USA Today Dec 2015: “The legendary Navy SEALs have no plans to alter their strenuous physical fitness standards as they open the doors to women in 2016, according to the Navy’s personnel boss.”
AP Jan 2013: “A Marine Corps survey shows 17 percent of male Marine respondents say they would likely leave the Corps if women move into combat positions.The survey says that number jumps to 22 percent if women are assigned involuntarily to those jobs.”
