Telegraph: “A nine-year-old girl faces being ostracised by an ultra-orthodox Jewish community after her mother allowed her to eat McDonald’s fast food and go to a mixed-sex gymnastics class, a court has heard.”
“The father of the girl, neither of whom can be named, said that he feared his daughter would be shunned by relatives and friends.
Litigation had started after the girl’s mother left her husband and moved away from the ultra-orthodox sect in London, after she became disillusioned and frustrated by the restrictions placed on her.”
The final ruling allowed the daughter to be with her mother although live with her father.
One day the daughter will be free to choose her religious convictions but she will have a foundation. How many people who graduated from Catholic schools are no longer going to confession?
The point is do not interpret this as a negative reflection on religion. These children are not being taught to hate or kill. Whatever your faith, it is either everything or nothing. Ideally, one day their faith will hold them.
Sometimes there are problems but a stream goes around rocks. The judge’s decision reflected the same, the daughter will have the opportunity to lead her mother’s requested social life, mixed sex activities, as well as conform to her father’s religious desires.
