Sun Sentinel: “For four days, city parking officers slapped tickets on an SUV parked three blocks from the Broward County Courthouse. When Carolyn White noticed the pile of citations, she wondered what was going on. She stepped closer to the car to peek inside. “Oh my God, please tell me this man is not dead,” White thought.”

Inside the Isuzu Axiom was the body of Jacob Morpeau, 62, of Miami. He was sitting in the driver’s seat, and his upper body lay face down over the SUV’s center console. His hand held a credit card, White said.”

Meet the Barnacle. CBS: “It doesn’t get much more conspicuous than a new parking regulation enforcement tool that uses suction cups covered in bright yellow plastic to render your car windshield useless…
“It attaches to the windshield using commercial-grade suction cups that provide 750 lbs of force per suction cup. There is no brute force way of getting it off,” Dougherty explains.
The Barnacle is placed by a parking enforcement officer, but it’s removable by you — once you cover the cost of the violation

Maybe 8yrs ago we went down to our son’s parent weekend and stopped in town before going to the fraternity. I had enough change to make all but 5 minutes before parking meters expired for the day. When we returned to our car we had been ticketed. It was $20 for 5 minutes while we were there staying a nice hotel, attending their football game, eating at nice restaurants… Areas of St Louis have extended parking into the weekends. I do not go near them any more.
