In the spring of 2010 we told you about the new calorie count rules for fast food. ObamaCare, we told you it was never about health, had provisions for what were, although not defined as, taxes for items inconsistent with their definition of nutritional. These applied to businesses with 20 plus outlets. In other words the golden arches’ Big Mac was under attack as well as it’s teenage employees and it’s primary customer, the middle class.
SEIU president Mary Kay Henry: “Fast food workers, like workers at Walmart and workers in airports, are taking a brave step forward together to call for a living wage so they can lift themselves out of poverty. We all gain when workers can drive the economy forward.”
Last month’s union strike at Hostess was the final nail in the company going out of business. The unions protested LAX and pushed heavily for a Black Friday strike at Walmart. Now they are in New York trying to force fast food workers to unionize.
In New York it’s estimated that 500,000 work in fast food. There are some 2,000 protesting for higher wages and the right to join the union.
Card Check would replace secret ballots creating just the opposite of bill, Employee Free Choice Act. Unions are not winning elections with employees hence the effort to unionize fast food. They’re trying to put pressure on the business owners to turn over employees, basically to provide new union members without an election process. It’s the same old song and dance, in the past the employees decided if they wanted to unionize.

Why would fast food employees be interested in joining a union? They do not work there for the good wages, it’s a transitional job, average employment time is nine months. Fast food’s target sector employees are younger people who are not supporting a family and they are hiring the least skilled. It’s normally extra money for students.
Last week in Virginia during Obama’s lame duck campaign he said: “Everybody’s gonna have to share in some sacrifice, but it starts with folks who are in the best position to sacrifice, who are in the best position to do a little bit more, to step up, and that’s what my plan does. So, just to be clear, I’m not gonna sign any package that somehow prevents the top rate from going up for folks at the top 2%.”
ObamaCare alone will have devastating affects on employment opportunities at fast food but unionizing simply to generate more initiation fees to stabilize SEIU… and in turn fund DNC campaign troughs, how is this not a tax on the middle class and the students Obama insists he is dedicated to helping?
