Last week Obama provided the Des Moines Register with an exclusive interview, with one provision, it remained off record. We covered all of this last week. When this broke everyone was talking about all the juicy details Obama discussed concerning term two but the Register could not publish them. They later frontpaged side by side pictures of the candidates which lead people to believe they were upset at the agreement but would remain loyal and endorse Obama regardless.

The Register early this morning: “The Des Moines Register endorsement: Mitt Romney offers a fresh economic vision
Our discussion repeatedly circled back to the nation’s single most important challenge: pulling the economy out of the doldrums, getting more Americans back in the workforce in meaningful jobs with promising futures, and getting the federal government on a track to balance the budget in a bipartisan manner that the country demands
.”

Gartner once ran the Register before moving on to USA Today, another Gannett paper, and NBC. Nobody would have taken long shot odds at them endorsing Romney, this has been news media follower territory for decades. Even after Obama scooped them on their exclusive nobody saw this coming. That includes Obama.

Like so many other liberals, they are no longer looking at storms or Libya but at jobs and the economy.
