The stimulus preserved the unions. ObamaCare empowers them by essentially unionizing the medical profession. The union benefits have been a slush fund for the dem campaigns and a cancer for the private sector, the disease which always proves fatal. It also kills cities, states, and even countries. Ask California. Look at Europe.
The idea is to create coalitions with positions and benefits which cannot be destroyed. People see it every day and overlook the significance, teachers cannot be fired. Somebody commits a crime for which we would be thrown out in the streets. They are put in a rubber room each day to drink coffee, read the paper, play bridge… as they receive regular salary and benefits until they decide to retire. As public servants, compensation is on us, health care for life and maybe a pension of $139,000 a year.
Michigan Capitol: “Despite having no horses, the water and sewerage department for the city of Detroit employs a horseshoer.
Yet even with a department so bloated that it has a horseshoer and no horses, the local union president said it is “not possible” to eliminate positions.”
No different than our public education, the water and sewer department in Detroit has turned their union into a government jobs opportunity. The teachers do not teach and this guy does not shoe horses.
Yesterday we told you about the 40% of the teachers and staff at Greta Hawkins school who told her to take the job and shove it, fleeing the PS 90 and actually standing up for what was right. Maybe that’s what it’s going to take to correct this awful mess, a little self respect.
