Carter’s campaign was fought against an epic of economic malaise created by himself, high gas prices, high unemployment, high regulations, no growth. Obama has called up the assistance of Clinton regardless of the fact that he just gutted the fundamentals which made Clinton’s Welfare program maybe the most outstanding act of his two terms. The diversion is to hide the reality that Obama find himself where Carter was. Carter faced a dynamic opponent just as Obama realizes he too confronts an ideas based campaign.

After being introduced on the USS Wisconsin Saturday morning, the GOP campaigning on a ship from Obama’s navy, Ryan spoke (excluding applause): “America is more than just a place, though. America is an idea. It’s the only country founded on an idea. Our rights come from nature and God, not from governments. We promise equal opportunity, not equal outcomes. And this idea was founded on the principles of liberty, freedom, free enterprise, self-determination, and government by consent of the governed. This idea is under assault. So we have a critical decision to make as a nation. We are on an unsustainable path that is robbing America of our freedom and security. It doesn’t have to be this way. The commitment Mitt Romney and I make to you is this: We won’t duck the tough issues; we will lead. We won’t blame others; we will take responsibility! And we won’t replace our founding principles; we will reapply them. I hear people say that this is just ‘the new normal’.”

Paul Ryan is the intellectual of reform revolution inside the GOP today. As we have written about before, the ability to negate the Welfare work requirement is exempted within the law. Again, Obama overstepped his authority by negating it. Ryan promised return from misguided policies would return our nation to founding principles and a once again healthy middle class.
