Part of the future of ObamaCare is contraceptives, the mandate just took effect a few days ago. The lib poster person was Sandra Fluke. Like other religious institutions, her school, Georgetown, is a Catholic university. WP: “Fluke came to Georgetown University interested in contraceptive coverage: She researched the Jesuit college’s health plans for students before enrolling, and found that birth control was not included.”
Sandra said: “I decided I was absolutely not willing to compromise the quality of my education in exchange for my health care.”
Fluke is not Catholic, did her homework on Georgetown prior to selecting it, and targeted their contraceptive coverage from the start.
On March 2nd Cardinal Dolan addressed a Long Island audience the highlight being: “Don’t impose your teaching upon us and make us do as a church what we find unconscionable to do.” We maintain this has never been about contraceptives but control. He moved on: “It is a freedom of religion battle. We are talking about an unwarranted, unprecedented, radical intrusion into the interior life of integrity of a church’s ability to teach, serve and sanctify in its own.”
The following weekend Rush issued a national apology to Sandra Fluke and spent the majority of his first hour Monday discussing it. Fluke reacted saying: “I don’t think that a statement like this issued, saying that his choice of words was not the best, changes anything, and especially when that statement is issued when he’s under significant pressure from his sponsors who have begun to pull their support.” Rush also spoke about his advertisers as well as his audience: “They’ve decided they don’t want you or your business anymore. So be it.”
During the controversy, one of the company CEO’s, Carbonite’s David Friend, spoke: “Mr. Limbaugh, with his highly personal attacks on Miss Fluke, overstepped any reasonable bounds of decency. Even though Mr. Limbaugh has now issued an apology, we have nonetheless decided to withdraw our advertising from his show.”
He was not alone in his opinion nor his decision.
Legalinsurrection: “On August 1 Carbonite released its 2d Quarter 2012 results, the first full quarter after dropping Limbaugh in March. The results shocked Wall Street, as Carbonite did not meet its growth targets, causing multiple analysts to drop the target price. The stock dropped 15% in a day.” Friend continued saying he did not regret his decision.
