Obama’s prime time gay marriage hour included a statement which encompassed so many sectors of society it’s hard to absorb the first time time. Reversing and replaying it a few times it was obvious how well thought out this was. In other words, once again, Obama was not speaking to America.
When campaigning in 2008 Obama was against gay marriage, we have covered several such flips and looked into this further;

Well over half of our states have banned same sex marriage. This includes 7 battleground states, CO, FL, MI, NC, OH, PA, and VA. They have over 40% of our electorals.
TIME just questioned Obama’s decision asking if black voters will punish him for his support of gay rights.
On the GOP side, when questioned about Obama’s hour, Romney and Boehner said marriage is between a man and a women and asked to speak about the economy.
