Endorsing his new have it both ways strategy, Obama just endorsed an executive order to open a disconnected piece of the Keystone pipeline far south of Canada’s border. He then bordered Air One to head off to a 2 day, 5 stop, campaign tour to comfort the pain at the pump Americans are currently experiencing.

He toured Nevada’s Copper Mountain Solar 1, another Obama public investment in solar energy. It employs 10 people, and produces 58 megawatts an hour. Our Navy aircraft carriers generate almost 200 megawatts. Coal plants average 600 megawatts an hour. The Hoover Dam can power 2 cities the size of Las Vegas. All employ more people.

After the tour Obama spoke: “If some politicians have their way, there won’t be any more public investment in solar energy. There won’t be as many new jobs and new businesses. Some of these folks want to dismiss the promise of solar power and wind power and fuel efficient cars…”

The people are impatient yet Obama insists they take a more sophisticated, long term perspective for the problem.
