We picked up whispers of Senate concessions on the House two week extension earlier this afternoon yet had found no confirmation prior to now. Erik Wasson has a statement from Reid’s spokesperson which indicates Obama is unwilling to play chicken on a government shutdown.

Jon Summers: “The plan Republicans are floating today sounds like a modified version of what Democrats were talking about. We’re glad they think it’s a good idea, but we should keep our focus on what we need to do to cut spending and keep our economy growing in the long-term.” Continuing he said the liberals appreciated the fact that GOP was “moving closer to Democrats’ position that we should cut government spending in a smart, responsible way that targets waste and excess while keeping our economy growing.”
Erik Wasson said nonetheless the liberals would require the month extension. “He said that Democrats are still seeking a month-long continuing resolution to allow time for talks. Senate Democrats have said they would look to cuts from the list of programs terminated Obama’s 2012 Budget released last week and by defunding earmarks.”
The GOP took the blame for the 1995 shutdown. As we continue to highlight, the news media followers refuse to reveal all of the facts, in this case the GOP won elections and legislative votes after that. Today’s news media followers, although they firewall the facts, they have not forgotten them. They are putting pressure on the regime to not make the same mistake and the instructions have been sent down to Reid.
Byron York said something worth noting today, something to the effect of ‘maybe the GOP got the wrong impression as a result of the shutdown’. My bet is that the regime did not.
