Obama’s ‘clean energy of the future’ Chevy Volt has been pushed upon America. Another economic burden for Obama Motors to bear, this vehicle is not only unreasonably expensive but comes equipped with primary features few buyers want. Take that to your demand bank.

What about the Volt, besides sticker price, is keeping prospects out of the showrooms? The vehicle is designed to run off batteries, electric power capable of up to 40 miles per charge. In back-up is a gas tank providing an additional 320 miles.

The problem with the gas is that it must be premium. The batteries require a charger. CNET: “Pricing for the devices has not yet been announced, but several of them distributed in the initial roll out might actually be free for consumers. General Motors announced in June that the first 4,400 buyers of the Chevy Volt, for example, will be offered the option to have a free charging station installed at their home.” They can be mounted inside the garage or outside the apartment. If there is no outlet outside, plans to build nationwide stations are in the works. The chargers will be able to communicate usage to the utilities which will discern between peak and non-peak time.

Inside room is not abundant. Charge time is up to 6 hours. The fact that the batteries are not the back-up makes the vehicle’s primary purpose short run, drivers will worry about losing their charge.

So much for job creation, these batteries are being manufactured in Korea. What happens to our lithium sources if and when this were to go into full production? Currently the biggest potential for these deposits is in Afghanistan, think about it.
