OBAMA SUSPENDS AK DRILLING DUE TO GULF SPILL

May 17th: The 9th Circuit overturned an effort by environmentalists to block offshore drilling in Alaska and Shell Offshore Inc was ready to start drilling it’s Beaufort Sea and Chukchi Sea leases this summer. Tomorrow Obama wonders aimlessly into the Gulf to look at the oil spill for the second time in 40 days.

The environmentalists made such an uproar about safety concerns that the rig now leaking into the Gulf was forced so far away from shore it had to go down 1 mile simply to reach the ocean floor. That is where the drilling began.

McClatchy: “Despite a late appeal from Shell that it would employ new safety measures in the wake of the Gulf spill, Salazar was unconvinced that the exploratory drilling even in the much shallower waters of the Arctic would be safe.”

Government is now telling us regardless of distance to shore, depth of drilling, let alone doing so on land, any method is unsafe.

McClatchy notes that Sen Begich is upset with the decision yet one must recall this is the same person who ran against Sen Stevens amid charges of corruption which were later dropped.

Shell has invested a great deal of time and money into this project. Delays will only increase product costs to consumers. Obama realizes that. Unemployment is increased, the economy sinks, and terrorist oil becomes more competitive. Again we arrive at the old adage, ‘Obama: Our American Leader‘.
