OTHER STATES EYING ARIZONA

Texas representatives Berman and Riddle plan to introduce legislation next January allowing law enforcement officials to request identification from those they stop. The bill is very similar to that of Arizona.

Rep Riddle echoed the concerns expressed in Arizona: “The first priority for any elected official is to make sure that the safety and security of Texans is well-established. If our federal government did their job, then Arizona wouldn’t have to take this action, and neither would Texas.”

Considering all of Obama’s bashing, progressive and news media racist focus, as well as the bottle throwing protests, one must truly understand what this law is about. How does it deviate from current federal policy? There is no new basis for change in normal procedure. It is still illegal to cross the border without proper paperwork, and very much unlike the Obama bills, this is only 16 pages, nothing is hidden.

Byron York was genius yesterday in his explanation of the law: “No, we are not confronted by actors with heavy German accents demanding our papers. We are instead confronted routinely by people of all stripes asking to see our driver’s license. When we board an airplane, we are asked to produce a government-issued photo ID, usually a driver’s license. When we make some credit- or debit-card purchases in department stores, we are asked to produce a driver’s license. When we enter many office buildings, both private and government, security guards often ask us to produce a driver’s license. When we go to doctors’ offices and hospitals, we are asked to produce a driver’s license. When we check into hotels, we are asked to produce a driver’s license. When we purchase some over-the-counter drugs, we are asked to produce a driver’s license. If we go to a bar or nightclub, anyone who looks at all young is asked to produce a driver’s license. And needless to say, if we have any encounter with police or other authorities, we are asked to produce a driver’s license.”

How far away are we from demeaning local libraries as being racist for requiring our children to use identification in order to checkout books? If the illegals are forced to obtain such cards they will only expose themselves yet if they do not they will remain an illiterate non-speaking sector of our country. ¿Qué si todos nosotros aprendió hablar? Then again we have all of those government imposed requirements outlined by Byron York for a driver’s license…

Just like all of these cost overruns with ObamaCare, 15,000,000 unemployment even with the two stimulus bills, the crumbling bank industry TARP produced…, this anti-state immigration stuff just doesn’t seem to be following the yellow brick road either.
