DON’T SHOOT ME… IT WAS ONLY THE EXAMINER

Making an exception for Obama, change normally works out for the best. After being fired two or three times there was always the option of walking out the front entrance, turning, and flipping them off. For me, every time there were always benefits, things to learn from and improve upon in the future. In each case the obvious question was whether that was an area to be pursued again. If so, what went wrong and what needs to be improved?

Participating in sports throughout my education it was necessary to work with white, black, Hispanic, wealthy, poor… and do so not as individuals but as a team. Consider the major league baseball club you support. The one here has a closer who once was a catcher. A pitcher who now is a long ball outfielder. A left fielder who is an all star infielder… Individuals are not simply sacrificing to move runners into scoring position but repositioning themselves for the benefit of the team.

Graduating college without taking a business course it just did not seem logical to move employees into positions which were not of interest to them. My company began with myself. People were added only when necessary. As things grew, it was that pool from which selections were made to fill managerial positions. Again it never made sense to move anyone into an area which for them would be like work. The greater the interest, the higher the productivity.

It was always the ship that sank or sailed, we competed as a team. If the kicker cannot hit the 4th quarter field goal or the trainer cannot keep the QB in the game, the team suffers. We relied on the efforts of the entire team. At Examiner there were many contests yet each was individual. This company focuses on local news in individual states although nothing was ever designed to benefit a specific state team. Speaking with a successful individual on our team, one of my points was improving our overall status.

As a ‘headliner’, breaking news was never of interest to me. Regardless of my hits, the staff’s ‘focus on local’ emails never ended. The company posts articles on all sites across the states as well as linking to search engines. I had a considerable number of articles sitting out there and commission was based on hits. It was difficult to walk away from, especially when considering restarting from nothing but it simply was not worth continuing to suffer. There are a herd of people drooling to cut and paste out of the local leftist news media so they can add commentary, never worked for me.

After moving on the company refused to pay me what I was owed. I inquired although they refused to respond. It was not that big a deal yet it was mine, their emails promising payment have all been saved. I would have gladly donated the money to a local charity. Regardless, I learned this was my thing.
